Pink City : Unfocussed

The walled city of Jaipur (Rajasthan, India), also known as the Pink City, is more than 250 years old and one of the most famous historical cities of India. This series of deliberately out-of-focus photographs of the Pink City attempts to capture the flavour of this iconic place and eliminate clutter. The simple technique used in making these images has rendered them like impressionistic or watercolour paintings with a positive, romantic touch. Stylistically, these images draw upon the early 20th century photographic movement Pictorialism and perhaps stand in contrast to the current obsession with sharpness and resolution in the world of photography.

These photographs were displayed at the exhibition The Pink City: Unfocussed (see Exhibitions page for details and show brochure) held at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur, from January 18-23, 2009. This series consists of 24 unique images, available as limited edition prints (Edition: 15). Available print sizes: 16×12, 16×11, 12×12, 22×16, 22×15, 16×16 inches.
