About
Mayank reveals through his lens, the secret poetry of ephemeral phenomena like wind blown clouds, drying lakes, stains on walls, birds on wires, mosses and weeds; to capture the unity of soul of all elements, the ideal purpose of which is to reflect the soul of the observer.

Mayank Bhatnagar was born and brought up in Jaipur (Rajasthan) India and studied at St. Xavier’s School. A childhood flair for art took him to study graphic design at the Faculty of Fine Arts, M. S. University, Baroda (Gujarat, India), where he got introduced to photography as part of the professional B.F.A. degree programme. What began as a subject turned into a passion, leading him to shoot hundreds of rolls of film and develop a great many monochrome prints in the faculty darkroom.

After graduation, Mayank worked for 5 years with Mudra Communications, New Delhi (one of India’s leading advertising agencies) as an art-director and subsequently started his freelance graphic design career. In year 2000, a trip to Keoladeo National Park, Bharatpur helped him develop an interest in birds, become conscious of his surroundings and appreciate nature deeply, all of which helped him to grow as a photographer. One of the series on this website (A Touch of Life) is dedicated to birds.

Mayank lives and works in the cities of Jaipur and New Delhi (India) and shoots a wide-variety of subjects, sometimes spontaneously and sometimes with planning, using varying techniques and equipment. A strong believer in the natural power of images, he does not title his photographs, hoping to bring them to viewers in the purest form, without verbal bias. Currently, some of Mayank’s photographs are in private collections in India, Canada and United States, many with India’s leading art galleries and stock photo agency and quite a few have been published in magazines, journals and on book covers by India’s leading publishers and NGOs. Mayank also writes about photography, primarily about use of compact cameras for serious photography (the articles can be found on his weblog: Mayank’s Viewpoint).

As a graphic designer, Mayank has worked with one of India’s leading advertising agencies and designs for top national and international brands. Mayank is also a graphic illustrator and his works have been published in prestigious international and national journals. Mayank’s other websites (on the Links page) may reveal a bit more about him!
